Organic slime formation in fountain solution in offset newsprint

In offset newsprint, a high microbiological load can emerge in the fountain solution system. This results in the formation of organic slime (biofilm) in the dampening unit (jets, rollers). In consequence, technical disturbances occur in the printing process and the downtime to clean jets, pipes and tanks increases. Additionally, the amount of fountain solution needed increases.

Reliable printing with WESSO® CLARIS

The WESSO® Fountain Solution-Hygiene system removes biofilms (slime), ensures a continously clean and hygienic condition of the fountain solution, and prevents the formation of new layers of sediments and slime. Reliability and quality of the printing process are assured, expenses for maintenance are reduced, and downtime is minimized.

A automatic control station collects the critical parameters of the water system and automatically reduces the micro-biological burden without any impact on the existing printing chemistry. A gentle step-by-step regeneration of the entire water circulation system takes place.

A combination with different types of filters (e.g. UF / MF) for an additional improvement of the water quality (removal of printing residues) can be done without any difficulties.

The major advantages of the WESSO® Hygiene system are:

  • enhancement of the reliability and quality of the printing process due to the removal of biofilms (organic slimes).
  • no interaction with other additives in the solution, no interference with the printing process.
  • reduction of expenditures (acquisition and reoccurring costs) with regard to downtimes, maintenance costs, and consumption of energy, additives and water disposal costs.
  • advancement of workplace and environmental health and safety due to the use of ecological agents and the removal of micro-biological hazards.
